Hi, I'm Larkspur. |

Chicory
|
And I'm Chicory, Larkspur's not-so-little girl. And here's our
story. My mom (my cat mom, that is) will start, since she remembers more. |

I grew up somewhere around Seattle. I had people who fed and
petted me, but didn't care enough to spay me. When it was obvious that I
was pregnant, they kicked me out -- dumped me by the side of the road outside
of Bothell. But I'm a resourceful girl! I had my kittens in a field, and
fed them the best that I could. I'm a good hunter, but as the weeks wore
on, I was reduced to chewing on plants to get a little nutrition.

I remember that! Well, really I just remember when the nice
people took us in and you threw up pine needles on their carpet.  |

Chicory, don't interrupt! Yes, some very nice people spotted
the kittens when they were about four weeks old and trapped all of us. Did
I mention that there were eight kittens? I was so glad to be Inside
again.
The people who took us in had lots of cats already -- they breed
pixie-bob cats. Our new housemates looked wild, but were all very
friendly.
I was so tired and hungry that I hate to think of it now. I've heard
humans say that you can never be too rich or too thin. I don't know about
the rich part, but I was definitely too thin then. |

Can I tell what I remember, now? |
Larkspur
|
Okay, okay. I'm feeling peckish anyway. |

When we were Outside, I didn't think it was so hot to have
seven brothers and sisters. Mom took good care of us, but there was never
enough milk to fill us up. When we came Inside, brothers and sisters were
great! There was plenty of food and it was warm and there were so many
places to hide and climb and jump out at my siblings from. |

The kids really livened that house up. They were a mixture of
gray and orange, long haired and short haired. So many people wanted to
adopt them! And they were really, really cute, if I say so myself. |

Thanks! |
Larkspur

I didn't say that they grew up to be cute. |

Oh. Anyway, after we were ready to stop drinking milk, another
nice lady came to the house and took mom and me to her house. I missed my
brothers and sisters at first, but I was glad to have mom all to myself. |

I missed the rest of the kittens at first, too. But we were
still Inside, with plenty of food, so I was happy. |

It has been great! We stay warm and well fed. There are lots
of windows with lots of interesting stuff to see Outside -- birds,
squirrels, even other cats. |

I kind of miss going Outside, but I know that there are
tradeoffs to make in life. Sometimes we get to make supervised visits to
the yard, and we have lots of toys that I can pretend are mice and
birds. |

I don't miss Outside at all! I'm never leaving. |
