Hestia's Story

My name is Hestia, after a goddess who lived a long time ago and stayed mostly inside, like I always do. I hope the goddess Hestia was good at running and jumping, because I am better at those than anyone, especially my mom, who doesn't even have a tail.

My mom says I had a sad story as a kitten. I was walking on a big road where no cat should be when someone saw me and took me to a big room with lots of kittens and cages. That's as much as she knows and more than I remember. I hid where the other kittens wouldn't see me, because I didn't know how fun it was to play. When my mom found me and picked me up I purred a tiny purr and didn't try to wiggle away like the other kittens did. My mom said, "Would you like to come home with me?" and I just kept purring and not wiggling, so she knew I was her kitten.

My mom says we are a good match because we are both couch potatoes. Every day, we snuggle on the couch to read mysteries. Sometimes I act like I am trying to dig into my mom's clothes. That's how I tell her to put the afghan on top of me. When I am on my mom's lap and under the afghan I feel as cozy as a cat could ever be.

Sometimes my mom reads mysteries for too long. Then I have to jump all around her to remind her of her other obligations, like playing with my string toy.

If I could be a mystery book cat I would be Midnight Louis. He goes wherever he wants, meets lots of interesting people and animals, and is never afraid. Plus, he calls his mom "Doll" and protects her. But it would be a lot of work to be Midnight Louis. So after being him for a while I'd like to be me again, and help my mom read more mysteries.
